The 550MW Mortlake Power Station is a critical open-cycle gas-fired power generation facility operated by Origin Energy, located approximately 12 kilometres west of Mortlake in Victoria, Southeast Australia.
As an essential contributor to the state’s electricity supply, the plant provides fast-start generation capacity to support peak demand and maintain grid stability.
The facility is supplied with natural gas via an 83-kilometre dedicated underground transmission pipeline connected to the Iona Gas Plant.
Given the scale, safety requirements, and continuous operational demands of both the power station and its supporting gas infrastructure, the project required high-performance cable systems capable of meeting stringent fire safety, durability, and reliability standards in a critical energy environment.
We supplied flame-retardant, low smoke, halogen-free (LSHF) armoured power, control, and instrumentation cables for the Mortlake Power Station, ensuring enhanced fire performance, reduced smoke emission, and improved safety in the event of an incident.
In addition, for the Iona Gas Plant, we provided screened instrumentation cables and custom-designed Fire & Gas cables with galvanised steel wire braid (GSWB) armouring to EPC contractor Technip.
These cable solutions were engineered to support essential monitoring, control, and safety systems across both facilities. Our contribution reinforced the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of this major power generation and gas infrastructure network — supporting critical energy supply across Victoria.
