The Royal Australian Airforce (RAAF) Derby Airport Lighting Upgrade formed part of critical infrastructure improvements at the Royal Australian Air Force airfield located in Derby, near Curtin, Western Australia.
As a defence aviation facility operating in a remote and environmentally demanding region, the airbase requires highly reliable electrical systems to support safe aircraft operations, particularly for runway and airfield lighting.
Given the harsh climatic conditions of northern Western Australia; including extreme heat, seasonal rainfall, and high termite activity, the project demanded durable, high-performance medium voltage cable systems capable of ensuring long-term reliability, operational safety, and protection against environmental degradation.
We supplied 7.5 kilometres of 11kV 3-core power cables specifically engineered for airfield infrastructure applications. The cables were manufactured with anti-termite double brass tape protection, providing enhanced defence against termite damage — a critical requirement for underground installations in the region.
Our cable solution supports the reliable operation of the upgraded airfield lighting system, reinforcing the safety, resilience, and long-term performance of this important Royal Australian Air Force facility.
