Project Overview

The Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal (WICET) is a privately funded, industry-owned bulk coal export facility in Gladstone, Queensland, commissioned in 2015 to increase the Port of Gladstone’s coal export capacity. The terminal is owned by a consortium of leading Australian and international resources companies, including Glencore, Coronado Curragh, and Yancoal.

WICET currently operates at 27 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) and is designed to provide specialised, cost-recovery handling services to support Queensland’s coal industry. Strategically planned for long-term growth, the facility has the potential to expand to approximately 120 Mtpa of export capacity from the existing site.

The project involved the assembly of modular electrical systems in Western Malaysia for deployment in Queensland, requiring high-performance cable solutions to meet demanding industrial, environmental, and operational requirements.

Our Impact

We supplied robust flexible Class 5 and Class 6 power, control, data, and instrumentation cables with tinned annealed conductors and an anti-termite protection layer using polyamide Nylon 12 with LSZH sheathing. These cables were engineered for durability, flexibility, and fire safety in heavy-duty industrial applications.

Additionally, we delivered large conductor-size Variable Speed Drive (VSD) cables to support critical motor control systems as specified by EPC and electrical contractor Monadelphous Group. Our cable solutions ensured reliable, safe, and high-performance electrical infrastructure for the WICET project, reinforcing continuous coal handling and export operations at one of Queensland’s most important bulk commodity facilities.
